Subsequent to implementation of a lockout or other emergency protocol, notification should quickly be made via the school’s mass communication system. In addition to providing general details regarding the emergency protocol implemented, parents, along with employees who may be out of the building, should be provided with information on restrictions (such as visitors to the building) as well as any other instructions.
Parents should also be assured that building occupants are safe, that normal operations may be taking place within the building and the school is cooperating with law enforcement regarding the area threat.
The above video covers the use of pre-recorded messages in your mass communication system and how they can buy you valuable time in an emergency.
